It is said that a journey of thousand miles begins with one step.The journey of AIMS commenced in 2009 by Capt. RAJIV SINHA,who in his tenure analysed and understood the need of the companies and importance of imparting quality knowledge to the cadets. He founded AIMS institute with a view to train the cadets under best experts from the industry in various courses related to Maritime. There was no looking back with the initiation of Value Added courses in 2011 for teaching quality professional training for seagoing staff, also the institute introduced Ship’s cook courses in 2012 with the approval from Liberian authorities. In 2014, AIMS Institute became an authorised Centre for Marlins English Test. Last year in 2015,It became the first shipping company to have ISO 2015 certification from Indian Registrar Of shipping as well as approved Test Centre for Safe Bridge type Specific ECDIS includingthe Commencement of  ETO COC Exam preparatoryClasses.

AIMS Institute offers Post Sea going career in compliance with the requirement of STCW 1995/2010, ISM Code, ISPS Code, Security training, Safety training, SOLAS and MARPOL of the shipping companies and train seafarers about how to learn on ships while working on board and prepare cadets to successfully pass the examination that will enhance their career making it a rewarding profession. They also offer Ship Cook Training wherein, existing chief cooks are trained in multi-national cuisines to qualify as versatile and global chefs. The courses’ are open to National as well as International cadets who have successfully completed the 2nd mate examination.

It’s not just numerous courses under one roof that AIMS has to offer but also lots of shore job opportunities for officers who are looking to settle ashore. Mr. Sinha shared his perspective on Maritime course in India; he stated that, Maritime courses offers enhancement of knowledge and creates better job opportunities with the government’s initiative of creating employment of our citizens in the world market. Seafarers are great source of earning. They are the key source of foreign currency remittance to India to reduce balance of payment situation for the country. In his view a skilled maritime educated is an asset for the maritime world and India in particular as majority of Indian maritime educated nationals are working on foreign ships.



The scope of competitiveness is fierce in this industry, there as many as 120 government approved Maritime Institutes’ offering maritime courses and about 50 more institutes’ offering valued added courses’ as per the requirement of various companies. Sharing his future plans for AIMS Capt. RajivSinha said, “We intend to expand our presences as well as focus on setting a benchmark in terms of quality training standards and raise the level of competition by including more valued added courses that would be beneficial in the Maritime industry.

Food is significant for survival be it off shore or on shore and as they say, ‘No war can be fought on an empty stomach’. The galley or catering department on ship is responsible for preparation and serving of food to the crew on board of a ship as well as tomaintainthe hygienic factor. There are a number of jobs available in this department that includes – Chief Steward, Chief Cook, Second Cook, Bakery/Pastry Man, Cleanersand Dish Washers.
Every department in maritime is important,the role of the catering department is considered as the ‘support system’ for the entire crew as these chefs take the responsibility to provide the most fundamental source of energy that is ‘Food’ which is cooked in large quantities to perfection for the entire crew.

To cater is a skill that a person can master with appropriate training.
